Q: Do you suppose a Song Sparrow sings because he is grateful?
A: The Song Sparrow sings to attract a mate, as well to defend its territory.

It’s a distinctive time of year; the shorter days nudge many indoors and inspire us to find warmth and comfort with friends and family. Yet, outside, do you suppose that there’s something about the chill in the air that calls for nature to sing a song of rejoice?

Indeed, the land, at the thrill of a winter, finally takes a nap and the habitat quiets to a bare whisper while Mother Nature reminds us who’s really in charge. We are thankful for nature.
