I am an interpretive oil painter. I love color so I strive to use it to prove the many dimensions of shadow, light and shapes.

Painting with both a brush and a knife, I’ll try and create a canvas covered in bold yet thoughtful texture.

Art is an interpretation. At my age, as a proud grandpa, retired from a career that carried our family across the country a few times and throughout Europe, I have appreciated, collected, and studied other artists and the way they interpret what they see. The way I paint is the way I see it! -MM

The Salty Dog brand stems from the mythical story about a dog that rescued his master after their fishing boat, the Salty Dog, was sunk by a sudden storm off the shores of Hilton Head Island. The story’s central figure is a dog named Jake, who saved the day.

Another meaning for a salty dog.

A sailor who has a lot of experience on the seas and shares his worldwide adventures is often called a salty dog.

The newest paint color for 2022 is named Salty Dog – a trendsetting blue from SW 9177 that is definitely eye-catchy and, at the same time, worthy of admiration. So, this is a blue paint color that is a good fit for all blue paint color lovers.

And, yet, another meaning for Salty Dog:

A salty dog is a cocktail of gin or vodka served in a highball glass with a salted rim. The salt is the only difference between a salty dog and a greyhound. Historically a gin drink, it is believed to date back to the 1920s.

Michael Muldoon graduated from Seaside High, studied at Oregon College of Education, went to West Point, and later retired from the Chrysler Corporation. He often paints with his mother, Betty Bower, in Cannon Beach and shows his work in selected galleries on the Oregon coast.
