Intarsia is a woodworking technique that involves fitting pieces of wood into a solid wood matrix to create a mosaic. “Intarsia” may come from the Latin word interserere, which means “to insert”. Intarsia was popular in 15th-century Italy and was used to decorate many surfaces, including walls, ceilings, floors, furniture, and jewelry boxes.
About the artist:
After 35 years, Mike Brown retired from a career in the glass business and has pursued his passion for woodworking full-time. He started creating exotic wood intarsia pictures, taking classes from Judy Gale Roberts, a premier intarsia artist. He won multiple Best of Show awards at the annual Artistry in Wood juried shows, as well as the Best of Class and Best of Division awards.
