“Sunset” watercolor by Bill Baily

I am inspired by strong compositions and intense color, which evoke deep emotions and provoke thought in the viewer. My topic matter consists of landscapes, still lifes, and abstracts. Each tells a different story through the interplay of light and shadow.

The media I prefer is watercolor. It is known for its fluidity and expressive potential. I also work with acrylics and mixed media to explore a range of textures and techniques.

I am a proud member of the Watercolor Society of Oregon. I also belong to the Lake Area Artists and the Buffalo Grass Society. These groups give me invaluable support and inspiration. I show my work at the Rental Sales Gallery at the Portland Art Museum.

Sunsets are more vivid during the fall, creating a breathtaking show that captivates the senses.

The changes occurring in the angle of the sun are the advantage of this spectacle.

As winds move southward, they blow away the haze particles that lingered from the summer months.

Cleaner, drier air, which significantly enhances color vibrancy in the autumn sky.

Nature itself is painting a masterpiece, a stunning array of oranges, purples, and deep reds.

Earth tilts at a lower angle, and scattering atmospheric light reaches land.

Fall sunsets are more noticeable after the muted hues of summer.

The eye-popping color change in nature is the lack of daylight.

Day and night are roughly equal in length in late September.

This seasonal change gives way to a tapestry of fiery reds to soft yellows in the landscape.

Fall marks a crucial phase in the plants’ life cycle.

Temperatures drop, and nights grow longer.

Nature instinctively starts to conserve resources.

Plants redirect energy towards their root systems to sustain them through the cold months ahead.
