My inspiration for the painting “Three Part Harmony”…

“Walking quietly among the evergreens and colorful deciduous trees of the Cascades, I realize how beautiful our Oregon autumn is. After an early snow, the mountains are especially picturesque and inviting in the crisp fall air.

I am fortunate to live in the Willamette Valley. I enjoy scanning the eastern horizon for the line of snow-capped mountains that seem like majestic ancient sentinels watching over us.

It is a magical place to explore and appreciate. Oregon off the beaten path.

Barbara Bacon Folawn pictured with Haystack Rock at Cannon Beach. Her father, Dr. Robert Bacon, was instrumental in the landmark ***Oregon Beach Bill and Haystack Rock Awareness Program.

She ardently champions Oregon’s natural resources, environmental causes, and art. Her unwavering dedication to these values shines through in her family’s relentless efforts to ensure free, unrestricted public access to the state’s beaches.

***The Oregon Beach Bill was passed in 1967 to establish public access to Oregon’s beaches. The bill resulted from a long-running battle between public and private interests. In 1966, an owner of a motel in Cannon Beach blocked off a section of the dry sand in front of his motel and posted private property signs. He also set up umbrellas and tables in the area.

Many people were moved by the threat of restrictions to beach usage and championed the effort to save the coast. After months of debate, the bill was finally enacted on July 6, 1967.

Only one other state, Hawaii, guarantees public access from the surf line to the vegetation line.
