Artist Melissa Jander opened her new art gallery in the charming town of La Conner, Washington, last fall. Nestled between the beautiful Swinomish Channel and the vibrant farmlands of Skagit Valley, La Conner has long been a haven for artists and art lovers alike. She is excited to add her unique voice to this inspiring community.
Artist Statement
“I aim to create art that resonates with the viewer’s emotions through the use of color, shape, and expressive brushwork. The natural beauty surrounding us in the Pacific Northwest is truly inspiring and serves as a constant source of motivation for my work. This inspiration may come from the rugged charm of a rocky coastline and its crashing waves or from a cluster of graceful, luminescent blooms catching sunlight by a window.” — Melissa Jander
Some artists who have significantly influenced my work include Pierre Bonnard, Édouard Vuillard, and Paul Cézanne, as well as contemporary artists like Anne Redpath and Winifred Nicholson. I admire the freedom these artists exhibit in their creations and the emotions they convey. Painting in this manner brings me immense joy, and I feel grateful to share it whenever possible.
