She has recently been chosen for the Artists Magazine Splash 25: The Best of Watercolor. Her work has been exhibited in a wide range of galleries. She has participated in international shows. Her paintings are in public and private collections throughout the U.S.

My creativity comes from observing the beautiful scenery around me. I live on the Clackamas River surrounded by landscapes of flowers, trees, birds, and water. I am constantly inspired by the way light filters through the lush greenery of the Pacific Northwest. Recent travel throughout Europe, Canada, and Mexico has opened a new world of creativity. I try to bring this creativity to my paintings. I capture special moments with my camera. These include the light, textures, colors, and mood. I then recreate them in my studio. Always with the intent, as a painter, to show something in a way that has not been seen before.

I want people to like my work. More importantly, I want viewers to take the time to engage with it. They should examine it more closely and consider its narrative. I want them to travel to the place and time that I have painted.

Kristie is best known for Watercolor Batiks, and when asked to describe the process, she explains.

“When creating a Batik on rice paper, I combine many colors. I watch them mingle through the fibers of the rice paper. The wax is applied in layers. Once I achieve the desired intensity of color, I cover the entire painting in wax. Next, I carefully crinkle the wax and rice paper and run dyes through the cracks. Every piece is unique.”

Kristie teaches Watercolor Batik Workshops throughout the Northwest.

Commissioned work, oil on linen painting titled IMPRESSIONS OF POPPIES by Paul Brent

Paul Brent
is an artist whose work has gained international recognition for its portrayal of the coastal lifestyle.

From his watercolors to his recent oil paintings, he captures nature in its best and most idyllic form.

He is best known for his beach subjects. He has also painted landscapes. These landscapes are equally indicative of his talent to recreate all aspects of nature.

He especially enjoys painting local scenes and beachscapes. He views these near his two home studios in Panama City, Florida, and Seaside, Oregon.

Paul Brent was born in Oklahoma City and lived in rural Southwest Oklahoma with his family until he was thirteen. His parents were educators. They moved their family to Long Beach, California. Paul attended high school there. He also studied at California State College in Long Beach. He majored in art. In his junior year of college, he transferred to the University of California at Berkeley. He wanted to study architecture. He completed his Bachelor of Architecture and joined the Air Force, where he was stationed in Panama City, Florida. There he met his wife, Lana Jane. After they were married, he left the service. They returned to California. He completed his Master’s degree in Architecture at the University of California, Berkeley.

He and Lana Jane have an art gallery in Panama City, Florida, where they live part of the year.

From June to October, they live in Seaside, Oregon. They have had a home and an artist’s studio there for the past 20 years. Paul Brent exhibits his work in Seaside at Fairweather Home and Gallery on Broadway.
