King tides are non-scientifically known as the highest winter tides that occur annually. These tides can create remarkable natural phenomena when combined with intense winter storms. If you want to document the impact of king tides on our coastlines, you can contribute to the Oregon King Tides Photo Project. By submitting your photos showcasing the affected areas, you can help increase awareness of the extreme effects of these tidal events. To learn more about the project and submit your photos, visit their Oregon King Tides Photo Project website. Your contributions will contribute to understanding and appreciating the significance of king tides. Let’s capture and preserve this unique display of nature’s power.

King tides are the highest (and lowest) tides of the winter season. They occur each winter when the moon, earth, and sun align to put the greatest gravitational pull on the earth.

Representing a fine art collection by an exceptional group of regional artists for over fifteen years. From traditional to transitional, contemporary to realism, and impressionism to emerging art, fine photography captures scenes and moments as they are, often resulting in breathtakingly realistic or surreal images and breathtaking, awe-inspired oil seascape paintings by Lee Munsell and Ron Nicolaides.

“King Tide” oil painting by Ron Nicolaides

Ron Nicolaides, with years of study and experience, has become a powerful accomplished artist. He has mastered the mesmerizing translucent waves in his depiction of the sea without freezing its energetic rhythms in oil paintings of the Pacific storms and king tides.”  FH&G

“Come and Sit with Me” after the storm, oil painting by Lee Munsell

Lee Munsell uses nuances of light to create transcendent evocations. It is refreshing to find an individual like Munsell who embraces time-honored tradition and then attempts the difficult. He may approach a silent mountain terrain where clouds and light are as much the subjects of the work as are the peaks, rivers, and strong pines. Munsell explores the profundity of water and light, presenting a shimmering work on rocks or a glow of luminosity in waves. Taking the effects of light is his way of expressing a belief in a supernatural origin for the natural universe. He seeks to convey the timeless and lasting effects of creation”.  –William Havlicek, American art critic
